Description

Deirdre,  from the older Gaelic form Derdriu, meaning unknown, possibly derived from a Celtic word meaning “woman”, the most beautiful woman in ancient Ireland, she was bethrothed to the High King Conchobhar Mac Nessa but she fell in love with his nephew Naoise.  She is sorrowful as she died of a broken heart after Conchobhar, the king of Ulster, forced her to be his bride and killed her lover Naoise.

Like Clodagh, she wears a handknit traditional Aran Sweater with diamond and cable pattern over a tartan skirt from Hanly Tweeds in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary.
